About the Fund

The Union Street Fire Recovery Fund has been established to support small businesses affected by the recent fire and its aftermath. Eligible businesses impacted by the Union Street fire can apply to the fund for financial assistance to help the business recover, stabilise operations and resume trading as quickly as possible.


Businesses displaced by the loss of Forsyth House will be eligible for funding, as may those located within both the initial safety cordon established on Sunday 8th March 2026 and the updated safety cordon area established on Thursday 12th March 2026.


The deadline for applications to the Fire Recovery Fund is 11:59pm on Sunday 5th April.

Support Available & Eligibility

Support for businesses affected by the Union Street fire.  The fund is intended to help small businesses recover, stabilise operations and continue trading.

Level 1 - Businesses displaced from building

£25,000 - retail, hospitality and leisure (only)

  • Must be primary lease holder
  • Business address must be registered for Non-Domestic Rates (NDR)
  • Must be operating from retail, hospitality and leisure

£5,000 - all other business sectors

  • Must be primary lease holder
  • Business address must be registered for NDR

 

Level 2 - Businesses within the current cordon as of Friday 13th March 2026

£15,000 - retail, hospitality and leisure (only)

  • Must be primary lease holder
  • Business address must be registered for NDR
  • Section 42 notice issued by GCC Building Control 
  • Must be operating from retail, hospitality and leisure

 

Level 3 - Businesses within initial cordon (Sunday 9th to Thursday 12th March)

£2,000 - businesses who have been in the cordon from Sunday 9th to Thursday 12th March

  • Must be primary lease holder
  • Business address must be registered for NDR
  • Must be operating from retail, hospitality and leisure only

 

Non-Eligible Business & Exemptions

The fund is specifically targeted at supporting local businesses within the impacted area. Please note the following are not eligible to apply for funding:

• Short-term Lets / Accommodation providers.
• National and multinational chains
• Property Managing Companies/Agents
• Landlords

Outstanding Arrears

Any outstanding arrears (including Non-Domestic Rates) to Glasgow City Council will be offset before any payment is made. Businesses are expected to be appropriately registered and licensed for their area of work.
